Abstract

Purpose: Define the intention to use mobile payment platforms as a result of the confidence, ease of use and the age of users that have been previously identified as important determinants.

Methodology: Exploratory study conducted at the beginning of the confinement to evaluate perception of consumers about the CoDi payment platform launched by the Central Bank of Mexico.

Results: Results, based on Chi-square, one-factor ANOVA and Linear regression analysis, show that both trust in the platform's operations and perceived unease of use are important attributes that influence the intention to use CoDi in Mexico. Generation X is the most reticent age group.

Implications: During COVID-19 lockdown, e-commerce soared along with mobile electronic payment systems.

Originality: It highlights the determinants of mobile electronic payment during a special period of consumption.
