The purpose of this article is to show the complex epistemic panorama on which the object and field of study of public administration is built from its interdisciplinary relations with other disciplines in the field of social and human sciences, and specifically with history. In this sense, some of the relationships that can be established between both disciplines are presented, not only from a purely formative perspective or as one more aspect of the curriculum to be fulfilled; or as a mere evolutionary process and change of a studied topic, but from a broader perspective, in which a panoramic vision of the State, its processes, institutions, organizations, as well as its aims, purposes and problems is promoted. Valuing in this way the historical perspective as a theoretical, methodological and interpretative framework of the Colombian State, particularly during the 19th century, a path of reconstruction and problémico and genealogical approach is presented; likewise, concerns are generated to continue interdisciplinary dialogue initiatives, which feed the way in which the construction of the contemporary Colombian public administration is studied, as well as on the way to solve, modify and/or solve many of the underlying problems to this same one.
