Abstract

The purpose of this research was to present a comparative analysis between two public social protection initiatives, the Bono de Desarrollo Humano in Cantón Ambato, Ecuador, and the Bono al Trabajo de la Mujer in the Municipality of Concepción, Chile, taking into account the gender perspective. The problem identified focuses on the absence of evaluation studies of conditional cash transfers, which allow determining how they improved the quality of life of women beneficiaries in the Canton of Ambato and in the Municipality of Concepción. The methodological framework has a qualitative orientation because it seeks to understand the experiences and experiences from the perspective of the people and the gender approach. A sample was selected from the database of institutions in charge of the management of both vouchers and information was collected through semi-structured interviews with women beneficiaries and officials involved in the implementation of both programs. Preliminary results show differences in the use and coverage of conditional cash transfers granted to women and their families. In the case of Ecuador, they cover some education, health and home utilities expenses; in Chile, on the other hand, the benefits are not sufficient to cover the costs of educational and health services and basic housing, since the vouchers are used for subsistence and women usually use them to pay for basic expenses such as water, electricity and heating.
