Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is: (a) to highlight the role of companies and their leaders in the proper management, handling, and control of stress in order to promote the well-being of workers, (b) to identify the main sources of stress, (c) to present various strategies to manage stress, (d) to analyze the factors of a psychologically healthy company.

Methodology: The methodological approach was qualitative with a documentary design, supported by an extensive review of updated literature.

Findings:  research studies and surveys on working conditions have shown that stress is a relevant factor in people's lives, that it is widely spread and that it is usually accompanied by serious and negative consequences on mental and physical health.

Practical implications:  Companies and their managers should understand their responsibility in caring for organizational and occupational health, both individually and collectively, paying special attention to the prevention, management, and control of stress.

Value:  This work provides information, scientific evidence, and practical data. Throughout the twenty-first century, the subject of stress has become not only a relevant phenomenon but also it   has been socially and scientifically acknowledged worldwide.
