Systematic review of happiness at the workplace in Ibero-American organizations

Abstract

Purpose: To determine the state of the art of "happiness" within the work environment of Ibero-American organizations from international scientific journals published from November 2000 to March 2021.

Design/methodology: Qualitative analysis with descriptive cross-sectional methodological design. The Systematic Literature Review in Management was employed (Chicaíza, Riaño, Rojas & Garzón, 2017), specifically applying the analytical method.

Results: The findings show the need to study this thematic line due to the richness of qualitative data obtained and the approach to the understanding of subjects in systematic interaction with their work and the circumstantial environment that surrounds it.

Implications: the study evidence and opens avenues for future research to clarify the relationship between happiness and performance in organizations, considering inter and transdisciplinary perspectives within management, psychology, technology, communication, and leadership.

Originality/value: regarding the number of variables affecting happiness, it is possible to identify as many as we can imagine; however, this concept is in an incipient state of analysis, and exhaustive studies on the subject have not yet been developed within the Ibero-American region.
