Este artículo analiza los capítulos que el autor hispano Pomponio Mela dedicó a la región del mar Rojo en su obra geográfica, titulada Corografía. Este autor redactó un escrito de alto valor literario, pero con un contenido bastante deudor de la tradición geográfica y paradoxográfica griega. Uno de los autores que Mela siguió más de cerca fue Heródoto, especialmente en aquello que concierne la descripción de la zona que griegos y romanos conocieron bajo el nombre de “Etiopía”.
