Abstract

ased on the Kantian idea of a type of understanding distinct from that of the human being as a finite rational entity, this study traces the impact generated by the notion of "other types of knowledge" in the post-Kantian debate. To this end, it examines Maimon’s reception of Kant, which culminates in the idea of an "infinite understanding" as an "alternative type" of cognition. This approach aims, on the one hand, to address Maimon’s philosophical position by engaging with what—due to a series of misunderstandings—has been established as his "genuine" stance. On the other hand, it analyzes the consequences Maimon derives from his appropriation of transcendental philosophy, particularly regarding the relationship between sensibility and understanding, precisely where the idea of an infinite understanding is posited as a regulative idea.
