AFECTOS PUNITIVOS: POLITIZACIÓN DE LA SEXUALIDAD Y REDES SOCIODIGITALES

Both rhetorics of punishment and specific affective atmospheres converge. Their fundamental aim is to influence public debate in order to mobilize support for a particular political-ideological project. In highly mediated situations by the digital ecosystem, punitive affects function as a driver of political polarization against the recognition and expansion of rights. This work explores social networks as the surfaces through which significant materials circulate, materials that the neoconservative discourse has successfully capitalized on amid the shift to the right. The findings indicate that punitivism thrives on affective mobilization to delegitimize and antagonize the rights and advances achieved by the feminist and LGBTIQ+ movements, a process that inherently constitutes a dispute over the meaning of democracy.
