Welfare, Political and Social Control in Coal Mining. The Experience of Lota and Coronel in the 20th Century

This article discusses the strategies of social control established by coal companies in Chile, since 1920 until mid-century and the ability of workers to resist them. It recognizes the control mechanisms exercised by these companies, associated with practices of industrial paternalism, perfected in those decades through a more complex design represented by the creation of the Welfare Departments.
