Abstract

This article focuses on sermons preached in New Spain, now México, during the first half of the eighteenth century. After establishing the basic characteristics of sacred oratory and after describing the production of a sermon as a process, this article discusses a recurrent topic in preaching, typically present in the preliminary pages of the printed versions (licenses, approvals): metaphor of the sermon as good law currency.
