Abstract

The text Desengaño y reparo de las guerras de Chile by Alonso González de Nájera (written in 1608) search for the reasons behind the excessive prolongation of the Arauco war. Once these reasons are established, the text propposes a solution to ending the war, the Araucano people being part of that solution. According to Nájera, a estrategic problem is critical reason for the conflict extension: The Spanish force was badly distributed over the fields. For us and in another sense the two conflicting war machines had rather different features: A state on one hand; a nomadic machine on the other. Therefore, in this work we first describes the theory that establishes the differences between both war machines. Secondly, we intentend to show that the indian belongs to the nomad category. Finally, we argue on the solution Nájera suggest to the conflict.
