Abstract

This article researches on the rewriting of the Crónica de Indias in Spanish-language poetry during the second half of the twentieth century and the beginning of the twenty-first century. First, it addresses the influence of the genre in the poetry
of Blanca Varela, José Emilio Pacheco and, especially, Ernesto Cardenal. After an analysis of the use of intertext in Latin American poetry, the article looks at its inheritance in Spanish peninsular poetry of the 21st century. In each case, the language of the Crónica de Indias acquires different meanings, generating a plurisignification that ultimately affects the category of the colonial and the postcolonial, destabilising it.
