In 1927, Pablo Palacio, a hitherto unknown writer, published a story in Ecuador that burst onto the literary scene of the time, with such force that it marked a division of opinion among intellectuals, who, on the one hand, praised the style in which it was written and its theme, and on the other, they rejected it and sometimes even questioned its value. This article is an analysis of the story "A man kicked to death" from the details and of a literary and sociological interpretations, as well as an approach to the author's context in which he developed his work.
