Abstract

In this article, we analyze critically, the construction of the dwellers that the sociology and the new social history made in the 1980s. Our review shows the fundamental concepts and the epistemological and political assumptions, which underlie in both perspectives. We conclude that the exposed theoretical production is the expression of a clash around the meaning that should take the democratic transition and the role that the popular sectors could play in it.
