Abstract

The 'death of God' was proclaimed more than a century ago with the hope that His presence would be replaced by the figure of a free and fully self-actualized humanity. In the meantime, however, we have learned that the idols which that death immediately brought forth —diverse yet united in the project of making humanity a god unto itself— turned out to be worse than the disease.
