New Social Agency: Women’s Roles

Abstract

This work examines the historical and theoretical trajectory of women's movements from the Enlightenment to the present. It highlights the critique of patriarchal reason and the struggle for inalienable rights such as education and suffrage, covering milestones like the Seneca Falls Declaration and the fundamental works of Beauvoir and Friedan. The text delves into the evolution of feminism, from suffragism to the introduction of "gender" as an analytical category to dismantle subordination within the private sphere. Additionally, it addresses the Chilean context, linking the attainment of the vote to human rights mobilizations. Finally, it raises philosophical questions regarding the universality of traditional discourse and the need for an emancipatory rationality that recognizes the subjectivity of historically marginalized voices in the construction of knowledge
