ELOGIO DE LA ELEGANCIA: EN EL CINCUENTENARIO DE LA MUERTE DE JOSÉ ORTEGA Y GASSET
Keywords:
Ortega y Gasset, elegance, fashion, good taste, noblenessAbstract
This work reflects on a thesis Ortega briefly proposes in Origin and Epilog to Philosophy, in which he states a possible etymology of the term "intelligence" is the Latin word eligentia, from which "elegance" comes. Thus, this concept relates to "good life" from Aristotle's Politics, to nobleness, taken from a text by Adela Cortina, with good taste and good manners, with fashion, the forms of belonging and individuation. From this perspective, elegance modulates the way of being without implying forms of exclusion despite its incompatibility with masses and its characteristics.
