In this article, I examine three short stories from Las cosas que perdimos en el fuego (2016/2017), by Mariana Enríquez: “Tela de araña”, “El patio del vecino” and “Las cosas que perdimos en el fuego”. Specifically, I analyze the representation of man to find out how the Argentinian author portrays masculinity. From the standpoint of various theories of masculinity (Connell, 2005, 2020; Viveros, 2020; Brittan, 2001; Breu, 2022), it becomes apparent that the behavior of Enríquez’ male characters does not fit exactly with the traits of hegemonic masculinity. Indeed, although it contains aspects of it, men’s behaviors in these stories would better be located within the parameters of a specific ethical and aesthetic project by Latin American women authors that is to be defined.
