This study examines the implementation of AI-mediated personalized learning environments in higher education in La Guajira (Colombia), a multicultural and multilingual region. Using a mixed-methods design, we surveyed 391 participants (students and faculty) and conducted focus groups with Wayuu–Spanish bilingual students. Results indicate a high willingness to engage in AI training: 65.35% “very willing,” 24.41% “willing,” and 10.24% “moderately willing.” Concerns emerged about technological dependence and the preservation of cultural identity. We conclude that AI-driven personalization should include linguistic and cultural adaptations (e.g., context-aware translation and recommendation), strengthen digital skills, and ensure ethical safeguards for indigenous populations to promote inclusive and effective education.
