Editorial Process

Contributions, whether unpublished articles, bibliographic reviews, or interviews, will be accepted between March-April and August-September.

No articles by the same author will be published within a two-year period. This restriction does not apply to female authors, in order to promote gender balance in authorship.

The rejection rate during the period from 2019 to 2024 was 55%. Reviews and interviews will be evaluated by the editorial committee.

Submitted articles will undergo the following evaluation process:

1. Preliminary Evaluation: This involves a general assessment of the manuscript to verify compliance with formal requirements, organization, timeliness, and editorial interest. A plagiarism and self-plagiarism check will be conducted using the Compilatio detector. If an article submitted for publication has been previously published in whole or in part by another author or by the same author, the journal will apply sanctions. The result of this evaluation may be either rejection or proceeding to external peer review. Any decision will be communicated to the corresponding author, with a maximum timeframe of ten (10) days for this stage.

2. Peer Review: This involves assigning the manuscript to external reviewers under a double-blind system. Reviewers will not have knowledge of the authorship of the manuscript, and it will be ensured that they have no affiliation with the author(s) or their institutions. Reviewers will use the online evaluation form, which includes the following criteria: a) Originality of the article and its contribution to the disciplinary discussion in History and related fields, b) Timeliness and relevance of the bibliography and/or sources of information, c) Methodological appropriateness and use of historical evidence, d) Clarity of the argument and academic writing. The reviewers' verdict may be a) rejected, b) accepted with modifications, or c) accepted. In case of disagreement among the reviewers, a third reviewer will be requested. If the controversy over the verdicts persists, the editorial committee will make the final decision regarding acceptance or rejection of the article. Any decision will be communicated to the author(s). In cases of acceptance with modifications or acceptance, the corresponding author will receive a draft that includes the suggestions provided by the reviewers and/or the editor. The maximum timeframe for this stage is between four (4) and twelve (12) weeks.

3. Editorial Review and Production: If accepted or accepted with modifications, the manuscript will proceed to the review stage, where adjustments and corrections will be made by the editor and co-editor(s). They will verify that all required corrections have been effectively incorporated. The manuscript may be returned for additional editorial modifications, and new changes may be requested as needed. The article will be considered accepted once the editorial team approves the version submitted by the author(s), following the comments and suggestions of the reviewers and within the timeframe specified for making the requested changes. Once the article is accepted, a certificate will be issued upon request, with a delivery timeframe of five (5) days.

When editorial comments are addressed, the manuscript moves to the production phase, where it is formatted according to the journal's graphic standards. After the article is formatted, it will be sent to the author(s) for final confirmation.

Dossiers

The Revista de Historia accepts dossier proposals through two channels:
a) Direct invitation from the Editorial Committee to prominent figures in historiographical or related disciplines to formulate a monographic proposal.
b) A public call announced on the journal’s website and/or via social media, directed at coordinators from different institutions and, preferably, from various nationalities.

In both cases, proposals must include a title, an introductory text of approximately 1,000 words, and at least six abstracts of articles authored by different scholars, within the proposed thematic framework. The quality and relevance of the proposed dossiers will be initially evaluated by the Editorial Committee and later discussed by the journal’s Scientific Committee.

Once a dossier proposal has been approved—either through invitation or a public call—all articles included must undergo peer review by external referees using a double-blind review process. The introductory text of the dossier will be reviewed solely by the Editorial Committee.

Articles must meet all the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

For a dossier to be published, at least five articles must have been accepted following peer review, ensuring the quality and coherence of the entire collection. If this requirement is not met, the accepted articles will be published independently.
