The study compares two theoretical perspectives -prospective and bioeconomy- in relation to the crisis of the industrial system of production, within the framework of the advanced capitalism during the last third of century XX. At level of historical theory, both propose somekind of civilizationary breakthrough It is difficult to evaluate their theoretical validity, because prospective and bioeconomy show well-known normative slants in their analyses. Therefore, they are interpreted like phenomena of intellectual history from a sociological understanding. Both paradigms seem to respond to the requirements of societies in risk that need ethical directions with claims of scientificity. Also, they constitute good examples of systemical processes of functional differentiation in social sciences: they increase complexity in the eagerness to reduce it.
