The subject of intellect is one that is central to many historical inquiries. Thus, forms of understanding arise as one of the common themes in the works of social scientists. One of these forms of historical interpretation has been the Philosophy of History, which received strong criticism from nineteenth century historians. Among these critics is the Italian Benedet to Croce. This essay intends on making a quick overview of some of the claims that were used to insist on dissolving the Philosophy of History, of which we can mention: intuitionism, liberty, causality, determinism, meaning and presentism, among others. The central thesis states that his arguments not only contributed to the dissolution of the Philosophy of History but were also a variant of philosophy as well.
