Abstract

This article studies the epidemic of Bubonic Plague that occurred in Iquique in 1903. It searches to understand its expansion in the physical, social and natural environment. This search is translated by knowing the city of Iquique, understanding its economic significance as a saltpeter port. Moreover, to see its infrastructure and climatic features. At the same time, the social shock of the epidemic forms an axis of great importance. For the same reason, the measures taken by the authorities and the social reaction through media and medical reports will be analyzed. At that rate, the epidemic analysis is raised as a global research, allowing the review of several process that affected the expansion of the Bubonic Plague in our country.
