Abstract

This article examines, based on colonial sources, the ethnic composition, geographic distribution and population of the four great in which the Araucania was divided in the years before the start of the crisis leading up to Independence, concentrating on the situation of the two most important tribal alliances located in the central plain of this large indigenous territory.
