The following article examines the first experience and example of differences within the Chilean left concerning how to develop or plan for the structural changes in the country during the government of Salvador Allende. For a sector of the left that contained members of both the Popular Unity as others who were not members of the governing coalition, the People's Assembly of the 27th of July 1972 signified the first real example of popular power, while for others it meant a detour of the process and an attempt to divide he governing coalition.
