Between 1918 and 1940, Gabriela Mistral and the former president Pedro Aguirre Cerda exchanged long, informal letters. The epistolary brings us close to a testimony of understanding and fidelity plus an intense critical excercise referring to the political life and historical events of that particular time. For 22 years, the poet and the politician shared their ideas in the isolated self-conscience and with the utmost freedom and humility of those who go through life without intending to last.
