Abstract

The testimony of the Chilean corporal Juan Plata presents his vision about Peruvian army retreat from the Quebrada de Tarapacá to Arica, between November 27th and December 18th of 1879. Captured by Peruvians in the battle of Tarapaca, Plata had to travel through the desert and the Andean counterforts. Likewise, he suffered the strictness of a strenuous march and his condition of war prisioner.
