Abstract

The present article thinks about the disciplining of the popular students through the schools in Chile, between 1840 and 1860, when it was a necesity for the construction of a homogeneous nation. Likewise, we reveal the reaction of the popular children to the mentioned project. For this reason, this article will analyze the educational politics implemented by the elites in this matter, with the reading of the reports of the schools’ visitors. The article shows that the popular children resisted in many ways the disciplining of which they were object.
