Abstract

Nowadays, it is clear that the most prevalent image of modernity is the city. Hence the importance of study it historically, in order to understand current developments, especially in relation to this process. To do so, it was chosen to understand some aspects which involved the urbanization of Santiago in the early twentieth century, a period when social segregation materialized spatially, showing multiple contradictions with the illustrated yearnings of both order and progress. This is intended to be read by the theoretical contributions related to photography, made by Walter Benjamin, and photographic evidence of Santiago in the early twentieth century.
