Abstract

This is a study that explains the development of the practice of Mental health home visits which are included in the Familiy health Program (PSF). The objectives are: to describe the process of home care for mental health in the context of PSF, based on published scientific literature, and discuss issues that relate home care clients with mental disorders. Methodology: Literature Review was used, selecting indexed articles from international databases; the analytical technique used was thematic analysis, which led to three categories: the context of the home care strategy, family involvement, and the equipment preparation for the client and his family. Results point out to the integration of principles, from the Brazilian National Health System's Psychiatric Reform (SUS), as indispensable tools for caring these clients through a psychosocial model, comprehensive care, social participation, territoriality and collective actions. Professional education and the perception of the experience of the mentally ill in their community, obtained by the home visit, continue to improve the quality of care.
