Abstract

The purpose of the present research was to know about the job satisfaction level of academic women nurses and the other group of academic women of an university in Chile. This research is a descriptive, correlational and causal research, where the job satisfaction phenomenon is observed in its natural context. The study was realized with the academic women population. The Job Description Index and the Employee Opinión Survey which where translated, adapted and standarizeded for the situation were used. A number of sociodemographic, personal and job variables were elaborated by the author.

A descriptive and inferencial statistic was used. Some results and obtained conclusions were as follows: the academic nurses are found less satisfied at their jobs than the other academic women, the predictor variable remuneration is the one on which the academic are more insatisfied, however it is not the variable they considered the more important in relation to job satisfaction. It is the chief, their peers and the promotion policy which have the greatest importance in academic job satisfaction. The lack of hygiene and security, the excessive noises and less agreable temperature at workplaces, producein them insatisfaction Almost half of the academics declare to work in other places in addition to the uníversity, and were complained that the work overhelms them and they lack time for their personal life.
