Starting from the question of the dialogue that Mauricio Wacquez’s work establishes with its context, this article analyses his writing, specifically Frente a un hombre armado (Cacerías de 1848), from the concordance that the novel establishes with neo-baroque devices, as it is articulated from an eroticism of writing that modulates, from the constant mutation and escape, the construction of a subject in crisis, located in a universe in constant movement, through which a multiplicity of masks pass. From this perspective, the conclusions of this analysis aim to place Wacquez’s work in dialogue with other novels that use the same devices, tracing a path that links it to a tradition of writing by Chilean authors, all set against a neo-Baroque background.
