Abstract

Objective: to analyze the importance of social rationalities in the territorial organization of cities, taking the state of Oaxaca in southern Mexico as a reference. Hypothesis: economic rationality occupies the primary role in the territorial planning of Oaxacan cities. Methodology: networks, Euclidean distance measurement, as well as the statistical technique of simple correspondence analysis on qualitative and quantitative data are used in the analysis. Results: It is not the economic rationality that has the greatest influence on territorial planning. Conclusions: The interaction of the existing rationalities is reflected in the diversity of cities and styles of development in the Oaxacan territory: the current territorial planning is based on multirationality, and institutional actions must adapt to this behavior.
