Contribution of regional universities to the development of the territory: the case of the Federico Santa Maria Technical University

Abstract

Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (UTFSM) is located mainly in the city of Valparaíso (Central House), but it has offices in Santiago (Vitacura and San Joaquín), Concepción and Viña del Mar. Currently there is no study on how Universities located in regions could be a more effective contribution in its territory, i mean, the city, región, country or even the continent. In this paper I make a serie of proposals for the future of the University in order to be a significant contribution to the community, looking at the past and present, but focusing on the future. I find many pending challenges in the University to position itself as a university leader in the future.
