Popular housing chilean 1885-1910 the case of Concepción

From the second half of the nineteenth century, in the main cities of Chile began a phase called "economic modernization", characterized by the expansion and intensification of trade, industrial development and a continuing increase in urban population as a result a strong migration from surrounding rural areas in search of better living conditions. As in the cities of Santiago and Valparaíso, Concepción faced the problem of low-cost housing and the popular sectors began to use urban space in the process of social problems called social question. The low-cost housing, in the three categories identified ranch-historical sources, the fourth round and tenement, had in common: poverty, overcrowding, unsanitary conditions, which was captured by the authorities at the time of the harmful effects caused their residents particularly in times of epidamis and the living conditions of the masses from the moral point of view, hence the interest in Prudential, monitor and improve the people's house, considering the period from 1885 to 1910.
