Abstract

Prostitution is a subject field with great potential when analyzed from the perspective of its social function, particularly its role in modern civilization. More specifically, from its location in the structure of the city, the cradle of modern excellence. This paper intends to provide some orientation towards this dimension, taking from the Chilean hygienist discourse analysis, developed between the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In this way, we aim to contribute to the understanding of the incarnation of modern patriarchal sex-gender system, and put this into prostitution as a constitutive axis.
