POST-PANDEMIC EMOTIONAL DISORDERS AND ACADEMIC BURNOUT AMONG NURSING STUDENTS

Objective: To correlate the levels of depression, anxiety, stress and academic burnout among post pandemic nursing students at a public university in northern Chile.
Quantitative-correlational study; of the universe (253 students) who were between the 1 st and 5 th year of studies, the minimum sample (153 students) with 95% confidence and 5% error was increased to 171 students to grant greater statistical power. The sociodemographic data questionnaire, the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale number 21 (DASS-21) and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-SS) were applied between April and July 2023, and were related by the Rho Spearman´s coefficient. Results: High prevalence of depression (74.3%), anxiety (88.3%) and stress (81.3%) were reported. Burnout showed 71.3% with high emotional exhaustion and 98.2% with reduced personal accomplishment, with a strong positive correlation between emotional exhaustion and total burnout. The correlations between personal accomplishment,
anxiety and stress were low. Conclusions: There is a significant relationship between the emotional disorders studied and academic burnout, highlighting the importance of developing emotional skills to face academic challenges.
