Ethical norms

Chilean Journal of Agricultural & Animal Sciences (Chileanjaas) affirms that its Statement of Ethics supports the work and joint effort of the authors, the Editorial Team and the Editorial Committee, as well as the manuscript reviewers, which allows generating a responsible publication of the investigation. This statement is based on ethical principles that follow the guidelines established by the Publication Ethics Committee (COPE) and other International Associations.

Author Responsibilities

Manuscripts submitted for publication must be based on original and unpublished research; they must include the data obtained and used, as well as an objective discussion of the results; they must provide enough information to allow any specialist to reproduce the research and confirm or refute the interpretations defended in the manuscript.

Authors must be aware and refrain from engaging in inappropriate scientific conduct and violating editorial ethics.

All authors must ensure that the data and results reported in the manuscript are original and have not been inappropriately copied, fabricated, falsified, or manipulated.

Plagiarism in all its forms, multiple or redundant publication, as well as the invention or manipulation of data, constitute serious ethical misconduct and are considered scientific fraud.

Authors must provide appropriate authorship and credit, and must refrain from deliberately underrepresenting their relationship to the published work. All authors must have contributed significantly to the research.

In case there is any direct or indirect conflict of interest with the editors or members of the Editorial Team or Editorial Committee of the Chilean Journal of Agricultural & Animal Sciences, the author must inform the journal.

No significant part of the article must have been previously published as an article or as a chapter, nor must it be submitted for publication in another journal. To avoid the above occurrence, Chileanjaas performs a similarity analysis through the Compilatio software, on all new manuscripts submitted, and prior to their publication. Articles that do not meet the originality standards, that is, that exceed 30% similarity, will be rejected.

In the event that the author discovers a serious error in his manuscript, he must inform the Editor of the journal, as soon as possible, to modify the manuscript, withdraw it, retract it or publish a notice of correction or errata, according to the decision of the Editorial Team of Chilean Journal of Agricultural & Animal Sciences.

If the Editorial Team detects the possible error, the authors must demonstrate that, in the modification made, their manuscript is free of errors.

Authors who submit their manuscripts to the Chilean Journal of Agricultural & Animal Sciences are required to participate in a peer review process and follow the publication guidelines.

Publisher Responsibilities

The Editorial Team will be impartial when managing the manuscripts sent for publication and must respect the intellectual independence of the authors, who must be given the right to reply if they receive negative criticism.

The members of the Editorial Committee and the Editorial Team are obliged to maintain the confidentiality of the submitted manuscripts and their content until they have been accepted for publication. Only then can its authorship be communicated.

In addition, no member of the Editorial Committee and the Editorial Team may use the data, research lines or interpretations in unpublished works for their own research, except with the express written consent of the author.

Reviewers Responsibilities

The reviewers must know and take into account the editorial policy and the declaration of ethics and bad practices in the publication. They must follow the recommendations contained in the Journal's Guide for reviewers.

Chilean Journal of Agricultural & Animal Sciences invites and requires that its reviewers have scientific experience or significant work experience in their field. They must have recently carried out research and/or investigative work and have experience recognized by their peers. Potential evaluators must accurately provide their personal and professional information, which allows us to know their experience.

All reviewers must decline the invitation to review a manuscript if they consider that they are not qualified to review it, if they consider that they will not be objective in the review, or because they have a conflict of interest.

The reviewed manuscripts are treated confidentially by the reviewers and members of the Editorial Team and the Editorial Committee of the Chilean Journal of Agricultural & Animal Sciences.

Conflict of interests

When submitting the manuscript, the author must declare any commercial, financial or personal relationship that may influence the results and conclusions of the study, or its review process. In addition, the sources of financial support for the study must be reported. This information will be included after the conclusions section of the article, if it is accepted for publication.

Manuscripts that have a conflict of interest as a result of competitive, collaborative, or any other type of relationship or connection with the institutions related to the document will not be considered.

The members of the Editorial Committee, Editorial Team and the evaluators will withdraw in case there is any conflict of interest in relation to an author or authors, or the content of a manuscript to be evaluated.

Chilean Journal of Agricultural & Animal Sciences will avoid any conflict of interest between authors, reviewers and members of the Editorial Committee and Editorial Team.

Originality and plagiarism

All authors must ensure that the data and results reported in the manuscript are original and have not been inappropriately copied, fabricated, falsified, or manipulated. Failure to do so constitutes serious ethical misconduct and is considered scientific fraud.

They should not send the same manuscript to two or more journals at the same time. They can only send it to another journal, once they are notified that it has been rejected or when the authors have voluntarily withdrawn their publication from the journal.

However, the Chilean Journal of Agricultural & Animal Sciences allows part of an article to have been previously published as a report, short communication, or abstract of a symposium, congress, or conference; This implies indicating the previous source in which it was published. The journal does not allow secondary publications.

Identification and prevention of bad practices

The members of the Editorial Committee and the Editorial Team of the Chilean Journal of Agricultural & Animal Sciences, in no case, will encourage improper conduct of any kind, nor allow such conduct to occur. On the contrary, said members will try to avoid bad practices, informing the authors and evaluators about the ethical conduct that is required of them (indicated in the Instructions to the author and in the Guide for reviewers, respectively).

The journal asks the members of the Editorial Committee and reviewers to recognize any possible malpractice, in order to identify manuscripts in which malpractice of any kind has occurred or appears to have occurred, with the aim of taking actions accordingly.

In case of malpractice, the Editor-in-Chief is responsible for resolving the problem, being able to contact an Associate Editor of the journal belonging to the Editorial Committee, the reviewers and/or specialists in the topic of the manuscript.

Upon identifying a bad practice, the journal will analyze the situation, gathering all the questions related to it (who, what, when, where, why), gathering all the documents that support it, such as articles and evaluation reports. Once the documentation is gathered and having clarity on the bad practices incurred, the Editor-in-Chief of the Chilean Journal of Agricultural & Animal Sciences will contact the author or publications involved, either the author himself or another publication or author. Subsequently, the author will be able to respond or comment on the problem detected.

The Editorial Team of the journal will consider COPE's recommendations for any case in which it detects a bad practice that has occurred or suspects its occurrence; and, if necessary, make some corrections. Special attention will be paid to detect cases of simple human error, as opposed to deliberate intent to defraud.

The Editorial Team will decide to withdraw the manuscript in the review process, in case of detecting a bad practice, informing the author of the reasons for it; if there is any inconclusive evidence of malpractice, the author will be informed about it or asked to correct any part of the text that is misleading.

Corrections and retractions policies

Withdrawal of an article. An article can be withdrawn at any time before its formal online publication; During the review process, the author must inform the Editorial Team, which will withdraw the submission from the platform, which, in turn, will issue an automatic response message. If the withdrawal is made when the article is published, the author must make the request to the Editorial Team, with complete information about the volume, number, page numbers, etc. The Editor-in-Chief can withdraw an article if it violates the ethical guidelines for publication, as a consequence of being a duplicate publication, plagiarism, fraudulent use of data, multiple submissions, false claims of authorship. In both cases, the PDF of the article will be removed from the platform and a notice will be left informing that the article has been removed.

Corrections to an article. If an error is detected in a published article (which the authors consider could affect the validity of the scientific content or its accuracy), a notice will be included as Fe de errata (indicating the corrections). Therefore, the original article will not will be modified, but the correction link will be available on the page of the article, so that the reader can download the files. Minor changes will not be made (spelling or grammatical errors, which do not alter the understanding of the content), but only significant changes (for example, information published incorrectly).

In situations where authors have inadvertently omitted important information, an Addendum may be published if they wish to add this content to the article after the article is published. The Editorial Team will decide to generate an Addendum, only if the information is very essential to understand an important part of the already published article. For this, previously, the information will be submitted to an external evaluation by peers before its acceptance by the journal.

In the event that a reader detects an error in a published article, they can send a letter to the Editor-in-Chief of the Chilean Journal of Agricultural & Animal Sciences, which will be evaluated by the author, the Associate Editor and a reviewer, to decide its validity. The correction of the article will be published with the reference to the letter received and the answers provided by the author.

Retractions of articles and expressions of concern. The Editorial Committee reserves the right to retract articles that, after their publication, are determined to be unreliable, due to an involuntary error, scientific fraud or misconduct: fabrication of data, manipulation or appropriation, text plagiarism, and redundant or duplicate publication, omission of references to the sources consulted, use of content without permission or without justification, etc. The purpose of the retraction is to correct the scientific record of publication and thus ensure its integrity.

If a duplicate publication is detected, caused by the simultaneous publication of the same article in two different journals, it will be agreed with the peer journal, and according to the date the manuscript was received by each journal, which of the two versions should be withdrawn. Chilean Journal of Agricultural & Animal Sciences will publish a retraction notice in the volume in which the article in question was published, indicating the reasons for it, in order to differentiate between misconduct or an involuntary error. The journal will notify the responsible authorities of the authors' institution about the retraction. The notice of retraction must be made in the short term, to prevent other researchers from citing the article without knowing the doubts about its reliability.

The retracted article will remain available on the journal's editorial platform, clearly and unequivocally identifying it as retracted.
