Abstract

This article presents results of a qualitative study whose purpose was to find out the meaning and value that Pehuenche students from the Alto Biobío commune give to the teaching of history in the context of the new goals of the teaching of history and the educational rights of the indigenous peoples. the study was conducted using a case study design and the information was collected through the discussion group technique. The results show relevant learning associated with the reference culture, the presence of conflict and discrimination in their education and little appreciation of history as a school subject.
