Women’s inclusion and gender equality in animated series

The purpose of this article is to analyze bias in the representation of women on different children television programs in México and also to question how they contribute to the construction of meanings in which women are conceived in a secondary role, as of little relevance and intelligence, and lacking equality relative to men. Through interviews, a set of animated series are analyzed based on three criteria to evaluate the inclusion of female characters and the roles assigned to them: a) the disproportion of gender, b) stereotypes about women, and c) the weakening of female power. The conclusion is there is an influence on the construction of meanings about the roles of women that prevent or limit the development of a fairer and a more inclusive society.
