Abstract

Chile is politically-administratively divided into 16 regions, beginning with Arica and Parinacota Region by the north and ending with Magallanes and Chilean Antarctic Region by the south. However, there is no specific criterion to determine exactly how many regions the country should have and what boundaries between each region should be. Therefore, through a review of national historiography, but more importantly, regional historiography (it has been for many decades, for instance, Ferando Campos Harriet in Bío-Bío Region or Armando Braun Menendez in Magallanes Region) to determine the number of regions that the country should have and what ae the limits between each one. It should be thought that 7 regions can be identified from this point of view, in line with previous works, which is what this research finds.
