Abstract

In Chile, although the promotion of creative industries is relatively recent, it is currently considered to be a strategic place for development, and that is why it deserves special attention from the public sphere . According to the National Council for the Arts and Heritage in the national plan for the promotion of the creative economy (CNCA, n.d.), the nature of the resources of this sector of the economy would be inexhaustible and sustainable over time.
Currently there is only one official document mapping the creative industries in Chile (CNCA, 2014), therefore it is considered important to add to the knowledge of this sector. The following is a qualitative research carried out in the Biobío region, which investigated the creative industries of Metropolitan Concepción, their protagonists, their relationships, articulations and their importance as a component of regional development. Through the vision of the actors (social agents that develop their work in the industry, or agents of promotion for its development), it was determined that the creative industry is still in an emerging phase in Concepción, showing a low professionalization of the sector, precarization of work and centralization in decision making that translates into a low autonomy when it comes to deciding plans and strategies of effective development in promoting the regional development of the creative industries
