Abstract

The course “The Teaching Profession”, a foundational component of teacher education programs at the University of Concepción, plays a key role in introducing students to the theoretical frameworks, phenomena, and policies of the Chilean educational system. Therefore, updating its curriculum to align with the new pedagogical standards established by the Center for Teaching Improvement, Experimentation, and Pedagogical Research (CPEIP, in Spanish) is essential. This project proposes an update to the course within the English Language Teaching program at the University of Concepción, with the aim of incorporating the new pedagogical standards for Primary and Secondary Education published in 2021. It is based on qualitative research conducted at the Faculty of Education of the University of Concepción, where four instructors who teach the course share their opinions and perceptions through a semi-structured interview. The proposal is grounded in collaborative work among faculty members, adjustments to curriculum management, and diversification of teaching methodologies. Proposed activities include reflective teaching workshops, lesson study, formative triads, and tools to assess both the outcomes of the proposal and the perceptions of participants.
