SELF-EFFICACY, PERCEIVED STRESS AND TREATMENT COMPLIANCE AMONG PATIENTS ON HEMODIALYSIS
Keywords:

A descriptive-correlational and cross-sectional study was carried out with the purpose of determining the relationship of general self-efficacy and perceived stress with treatment compliance in patients on hemodialysis. Fifty-four patients from three dialysis centers were studied. Treatment compliance was measured through self-report, interdialytic weight gain and potassium levels. It was found that general self-efficacy had direct relationships with self-reported overall compliance and medication compliance, but not with objective indicators of compliance. Perceived stress showed no significant relationships with compliance, while self-reported medication and diet compliance showed a direct relationship with age and an inverse association with time on hemodialysis.
