The objective is to understand how nurses from the Family Health of Paraná, Brazil, perceive the relationships in the assistance practice and its relation to the care longitudinality. Both conditions are interrelated, relevant to the close, good and lasting therapeutic relationship between the user and the worker and the health service. An exploratory descriptive qualitative study, conducted in 2010 with 20 nurses from the Family Health municipalities of Paraná’s 10th Regional of Health, through semi-structured interviews and content analysis. Nurses express the relationship as close relationships, humanized and trust between health care workers and users, based on the interaction-time, co responsibility, and consideration of the completeness and resolution of the user actions. The relationship is facilitated when the user wants it, by continuous contact, at the encounter: the intention goes beyond the goal of healing and solves the problems. It is essential to longitudinality. The interpretations found are consistent to the proposition of the technical and political strengthening of the service-worker-population relation, which offers longitudinality and expands the quality of care.
