Abstract

Objective: to analyze the reliability and validity of the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test in a population of students who are entering the university for their first time. Material and method: application of the instrument to 845 students, previous informed consent, selected through faculty stratified random sampling. 789 students completed it successfully, parametric tests for alcohol consumption were applied to obtain results based on cut scores and areas suggested by the World Health Organization. Cronbach’s alpha was applied to determine the reliability and factor analysis for validity. Results: The reliability of the instrument was appropriate (? = 0.83), and detected two components relating to alcohol consumption and consequences. Conclusion: This test is a reliable and valid diagnosis tool in both hazardous alcohol
consumption and dependency in college students.
