PERCEPTION OF THE MULTIPROFESSIONAL TEAM REGARDING THE RESIDENTS CLINICAL HISTORY RECORDS AT A LONG TERM INSTITUTION FOR THE ELDERLY

Objective: To analyze the application and advantages of using patient medical records by a multiprofessional team at a long-stay institution for the elderly in the city of Balneario Camburiu, located in the state of Santa Catarina, in Brazil. Method: The study participants were the eight collaborators which make up the institution’s multiprofessional team and data collection took place in September of 2016. The chosen methodology for this study was the Convergent Care Research approach. First, the purpose of this research is presented, followed by the survey used and the model of the residents medical records. Second, after the residents records were applied with three institutionalized elderly patients, the individual interview was carried out. Results: The study revealed that no difficulty was mentioned by the participants in relation to completing the medical record. From the reports emerged five discourses with the following Central Ideas: Ease of Access to Residents’ Information; Sharing Areas of Knowledge; Multidisciplinary Teamwork; Suggestions regarding the Instrument; Standardization and Periodicity. Conclusion: It is concluded that the assessment of the residents’ records had a positive response from the members of the institution’s multiprofessional team, with the agreement that its applicability enabled the adequate care of the institutionalized elderly.
