ANALYSIS OF THE CONCEPT OF PEDIATRIC TRIAGE ACCORDING TO THE WALKER AND AVANT MODEL

Abstract

Objective: To analyze and define the concept of pediatric triage using the Walker and Avant model, identifying its essential attributes, background, consequences, and related concepts.
Materials and Methods: Based on the model, eight steps were developed that contribute to approaching the concept from a theoretical perspective. Results: The analysis identified the following as essential attributes of pediatric triage: prioritization, rapid and safe classification of pediatric risk, up-to-date and continuous training of staff, the need to educate parents and caregivers, the use of appropriate scales for risk assessment, and the use of skills such as empathy, assertive communication, and decision-making. Conclusions: A thorough understanding of the concept of pediatric triage allows for
improved implementation in clinical practice, thus contributing to safer and more efficient care for children.
