Aim: To review the implementation of the care instrument based on dependency and risk and its results in 8 hospitals over 5 years within the Reloncaví Health Service, Chile. Material and Method: This was an observational, descriptive, and retrospective study conducted from March to June 2024. The study followed the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) guidelines for observational studies. Anonymous patient categorization data from 7 hospitals in the Reloncaví Health Service in Chile, covering the period from 2019 to 2023, were used to calculate the coverage of the care instrument application based on dependency and risk, as well as the distribution of patients into critical, intermediate, and basic care categories. Results: A total of 941,028
patients were categorized during the study period. The compliance coverage of the care instrument based on dependency and risk for the 7 hospitals increased throughout the study period, and by 2023, all hospitals had coverage exceeding 83%. The largest proportion of
patients fell into the intermediate care category, comprising 52.25% of the total. Over the period, the number of critical patients increased, while the number of patients in basic care
decreased. Conclusions: The care instrument based on dependency and risk has successfully facilitated the categorization of patients in low-complexity hospitals within the
Reloncaví Health Service in Chile.
