Abstract

A descriptive study was carried out in 62 nurses at the Surgical Rooms and Sterilization Services. The purpose of this research was to identify the psychological and social factors that motívate the professionals and their workplace and to analyze the existing differences according to personal and organization characteristics. Results showed that psychological factors prevail in the group, being self steem, achievement and affiliation the most important ones. Organizational and personal differences influencing both psychological and social factors with Chi-square test to P < 0,05. These results may permit us to consider them as a general guideline for job definition, professional development and team structure. These motivational factors should also be considered in order to abtain a pleasant and stimulating working enviroment.
